March 14, 2008

With sperm donations down nearly 40% over the last 4 years in Ireland, a new site has begun offering tickets to any music festival in Europe to men who make a deposit. Deposits are made via special containers obtained from the site and a courier network which delivers the containers back to the company. Men across Europe have responded to the call and have inundated the site with request for the donation containers. After only a day the site owners posted a note saying they were shutting down the pilot program:

The purpose of this website was to test market interest through a pilot scheme. Applications for donation packs have far exceed the expectations.

Our clients are calling a halt to the invitation to apply for packs, and will review the results of the scheme to decide on how to proceed.

Musical Condoms Boon to Rhythmic Coitus

February 9, 2008

Are you rhythmically challenged? Does your guttural moaning and expletive laden calls for incestuous relations with a parental figure ruin your bi-monthly night of passion? If so, then a force-sensitive sound-playing condom might be just what you need to set the mood. The inventor of the musical cock-ring and the burping, peeing doll you played with as a kid has another hit device ready to be licensed by manufactures the world over.

Wi-fi Uses at the Edge (of Goood Taste)

May 8, 2007

turnmeon_mn_b.jpg

Thanks to the Thrill List I came across a wonderful new product that makes innovative use of Wi-fi. Innovation people, innovation. Some enterprising adult products vendor has combined the expensive frilly things men buy for women with a Wi-fi enabled vibrator. The result is $100 dollar panties that can be made to hum and buzz, from a distance of 20 feet, theoretically bringing that special lady in your life a down-low, high-tech thrill.

Why I love Public Access TV

April 19, 2007

Its the original YouTube. The precursor to Vlog’s and it’s everywhere. Yes folks I’m talking about public access TV. There are few better methods for getting the tenor of a community then the local public access station. It the one location where anyone form your grandma to your pet snake can have their own soap box for 30 minutes, without commercial breaks. If you watch regularly your likely to be treated to everything from musical odes by tone deaf religious zealots, aspiring strippers or failed geriatric rockers to diet tips, spiritual guidance (in many flavors) and sexual advice. Despite all noise on public access, every once in a while something breaks through. Some gem of insight so sharp or commentary so timely and biting that it cuts through the clutter and transcends all categorization.

The following video is one such piece. Taken from PeopleTV in Atlanta Ga, this snippet of educational goodness is a must. Be forewarned, may not be work safe depending on your circumstances so while I give it two thumbs up it also gets a NSFW label.

Porn Industry Bigger Then Music Industry (Supprised?)

January 8, 2007

What would you rather do, pay a few bucks to watch a hot independent sex worker play with her naughty parts? Or would you rather pay $15 but to hear a manufactured sex worker sing about playing with hers? Well, according to a two reports that came out last week, many Americans frequently indulge in the former and are increasingly foregoing the later.

Yes that’s right folks the porn industry, at just under $13 billion, is officially bigger then the music industry which according to the RIAA’s most optimistic estimates is probably closer to a mere $11 billion dollars. Variety delivered the bad news to the music industry and AVN gave the good tidings to the folks in adult entertainment last week.

Adult entertainment is an industry faced with rampant copyright infringement, innovative competition in every area of its business, tremendous public pressure and fierce governmental oversight. Despite all this, porn continues to embraced the Internet, experiement with new products, focus on serving paying customers (while outpacing the rippers), and so they have thrived… Perhaps there is an obvious lesson in this that the music industry can hire a bunch of really smart consultants to analyze into obscurity.

African Innovation: Pronto Condoms

November 8, 2006

There is so much I might say about this one but then it would reveal way to much about my life (or lack thereof). The Pronto Condom is a great example of innovation at work based on needs and constraints, not process and “smarts”. South Africa has a huge problem with HIV infections, but they dont have a ton of money, huge R&D facilities or a bunch of MBA’s to “foster innovation”. And yet they seem to have found a solution to the age old problem of how to keep it up while trying to wrap it up.

According to this report difficulty getting on a condom is a huge limiting factor in condom use. Given the limited resources in South Africa, the dire problems with HIV and ingenuity of the people that they came up with this simply solution is not surprising. Note that it doent require new materials, new machines or new processes to make.

On the marking side I’m not sure the term pronto is the right association you want with your condom. Check out the amazing demo here
