The only money the artist will get is from the initial purchase of their CD. Effectively, you're paying for warez in much the same way you would with a usenet account; a couple of cents per meg of bandwidth. The only differnce is the convience of the encoding options and catalogue. I'd be quite happy to pay the 99cents per song for a nice DRM-free ogg file if I knew the artist was getting a fair cut, but, for now it seems, I'm stuck paying for warez too.
